Lovely words about AION in Helsingin Sanomat, after the performance in Helsinki with the @helsinkiphilharmonic and Eva Ollinainen 🌸 “AION is not a traditional tone poem depicting nature - it is an abstract modern work that proceeds according to the music’s own internal logic. At the same time, it is a concrete, sensory ecosystem. … The work conjured an atmospheric sound-world that enveloped the listener, drawing them into its depths. … AION’s tectonic shifts were in constant motion, often layered and pulling in opposing directions. The work has a taut, distinctive architecture, which Ollikainen commanded with complete authority. … Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring pairs perfectly with AION. The element of earth also rules The Rite, and both works transport the listener to a mythical realm.” - Hannu-Ilari Lampinen, Helsingin Sanomat

ICElab Presents: Anna Thorvaldsdottir

May 07, 2013

ICE has posted a video excerpt from the workshop we had in March. The workshop was a week long session where members of ICE and I were working on technical aspects of the new piece that will be premiered next season in NYC. The piece will be an entire concert length in duration and will feature 5 performers and a light installation. Apart from their instruments, the performers will also be "performing" on lights through their own breathing - i.e. rather than using the audio of their breathing their breaths will be converted into the lights of the installation.

Click on the image to see the video.

The piece will feature Kyle Armbrust on viola, Michael Nicolas on cello, Cory Smythe on piano, Ross Karre on percussion & Nuiko Wadden on harp, as well as lighting designer Nicholas Houfek & sound engineer Levy Lorenzo.

Needless to say I am having a great time working on the piece ***v***
